PR inaugura Macia-Chókwè e destaca importância de portagens

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, inaugurated, on September 13th, the Macia-Praia do Bilene and Macia-Chókwè-Macaretane roads and defended the strategy of installing toll plazas, used throughout the world, as a mechanism for collecting revenues to finance maintenance and preservation works on the road asset. The roads formally opened to the public on the morning of the 13th were concessioned to Rede Viária de Moçambique (REVIMO), which invested around 2.6 billion meticais in works to improve the quality of traffic. The section from Macia to Chókwè, 62 km long and comprising National Road 101 (N101), benefited from rehabilitation, the Macia-Praia do Bilene route - Regional Road number 448 (R453) with 32 km - was subject to maintenance periodic, while on the R448 Chókwè-Macaretane, 22km, routine maintenance works were carried out. Visibly satisfied with the infrastructure, Filipe Nyusi said, during his speech, that “this road is not just asphalt and concrete; it is a tangible symbol of our collective determination. It will shorten distances, eliminate barriers and connect our communities with markets, production centers and commercial partners.”

President Nyusi also spoke of the importance of road safety and recommended that all drivers drive with caution on the recently rehabilitated roads. The Government's ongoing commitment to improving the country's road network was highlighted, with plans for further investment in roads and bridges vital to economic development. In fact, the Head of State reiterated that the Government is committed to mobilizing financing for the construction of an alternative road to the N1 from Macia, in Gaza, to Inchope, Manica province. Part of this corridor is already paved, lacking, among others, intervention on the Mapai-Massangena section and a bridge over the Save river to connect the two provinces.
